Songs stimulate the senses, the senses stimulate emotions, emotions leads to actions and when there’s an action there’s no going back. Words are powerful, very powerful. Someone can talk you into giving all your life savings, a speech can make you go out and hate people or eventually kill. We’ve all heard of suicide bombers and all, I can tell you that music is more powerful because it affects all the senses not just the ears.
Everything we do in life involves our senses; desire, mission, love, hatred, sadness, laughter, fight, peace, movements, worship etc the senses don’t just act on their own, they have stimulants and music is one of those. Do you know how many times you’ve done things that you didn’t know that it was music that made you do them? Because you are not paying attention to your reaction, you thought you were just using your ears to listen but you are screaming and angry, if you had stopped that music the anger could have gone.
When people say they don’t like a particular kind of music (I charge musicians to listen to every kind of music though) it’s not that the music is bad it’s because they don’t want to release that part of their emotion the music affects. For instance a Gospel song from someone like Don Moen will make you sober, humble and when you’re humble you can listen to God. Well, some people call it sad, you can name it what you want but it’s making you go slow.
To my Gospel musician friends, make music that will make someone want to TOUCH God, TASTE Salvation, put Heaven in their SIGHT, make them feel like they can actually SMELL a fragrance and of course you can HEAR it.
