From the ash heep of our hope
To the fragments of our unity
We are fainting from the burden of our pain
We have given our hearts to animosity
We stagger through the valley of death
Hiding in the shadow of shame
How did we fall to the depth
And will our troubles ever go away

Nevertheless one thing is certain
This storm will pass
When the sun rises over Nigeria
We’ll be singing a new song at last
But until then we must remain hopeful
Only say what you want to see

So I speak peace
To the nation, to the land, to you and me.

Everybody’s walking away,
Everybody has something to say
With our hands we have broken today
With our lips we can heal tomorrow
They say the struggle will never fade away
All they see is death and sorrow
We put out trust in the men of today
But it feels like there may never be tomorrow

Nevertheless one thing is certain
